As a leading Congressional expert on terrorism and homeland security issues and an advocate for fiscal responsibility and the fortunes of working families, Jane Harman is an uncommon leader serving the communities of California's 36th District.Working for a strong California and national economy is a top priority for Congresswoman Harman, whose committee assignments have enabled her to work to lower trade barriers, create jobs, promote America's products abroad and foster the growth and success of California's creative, high-tech and entertainment industries.
Throughout her career, Harman has fought for a clean and healthy environment, to restore our nation's wetlands, to improve toxic waste cleanups and to end the threat of oil drilling along California's coast and in the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge. She is also a long-time supporter of Congressional efforts to put America on the path to greater energy independence.
In recognition of her national security expertise, Harman was appointed by the House Democratic leadership to serve as Ranking Member on the Intelligence Committee for the 108th Congress. She also serves on the House Select Committee on Homeland Security.
Her background, broad knowledge and authoritative style have made her a frequent guest on many national news programs, including the Today Show, Meet The Press, Face the Nation, CNN's American Morning, Capitol Gang, Wolf Blitzer Reports and Late Edition, and Larry King Live, and Fox News Sunday. Her commentaries and Op-Ed pieces have been published in newspapers throughout the country, including the Washington Post and the Los Angeles Times.
